The AI tutor is a voice you talk to out loud about your material. It's voice only. If you'd rather type, use the text field in the same tab.

Start a conversation

  1. Open a summaryOpen a summary and tap the Ask tab.
  2. Choose the tutorTap Talk to the tutor. If you've already asked something there, you'll find it at the bottom as Tutor. The first time, your device asks whether Hazelnote may use the microphone.
  3. Start talkingAfter Connecting … the tutor greets you. Once it says I’m listening, just start talking.

During the conversation

  • Interrupt it any time, like in a real conversation. While it talks, you'll see Tutor speaking · you can interrupt.
  • Tell it when you can't follow, ask for an example or have it quiz you.
  • Use the microphone button to mute and unmute yourself.
  • Tap the hang-up button to end the conversation.

A conversation lasts up to 10 minutes. In the last two minutes the app shows how much time is left, and shortly before the end the tutor says goodbye. Then you can start a new conversation.

What the tutor knows

The tutor starts with the summary you opened it from. It knows the titles of your other summaries and notebooks. When you bring up another topic, it looks it up, and the app shows Looking it up in your material. In notebooks it reads your handwriting too.

It sticks to your material. When it explains something that goes beyond your notes, it tells you so. For topics that aren't in your material at all, it says it doesn't have a note on that.

Switch topics

Tap the title at the top. Under What do you want to talk about?, choose All my material or individual summaries and notebooks. The All, Summaries and Notebooks filters help you find them. Then tap, for example, Talk about 2 items. A new topic starts a new conversation.

Pro and your AI allowanceThe tutor is part of Pro. Every conversation uses your AI allowance, a lot more than a summary does. To see how much is left, tap your avatar in the top right and look under AI allowance in Profile & settings.
